Dr. Melissa Hart

Dr. Melissa Hart earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2003. She then attended the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, where she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.

During veterinary school, Dr. Hart conducted research on neural brain stem cells, focusing on their migration and behavioral patterns in response to inflammation in mice infected with herpes encephalitis. Her work earned her the award for Best Poster in recognition of her accomplishments.

After graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Hart joined a busy four-doctor small-animal veterinary practice in upstate New York. She also worked part-time at a local emergency clinic and volunteered with the local SPCA, providing free spay and neuter services.

Dr. Hart eventually returned to her native California, where she joined—and later became part owner of—two small-animal veterinary practices in Sonoma County. Over the next 15 years, she continued to expand her expertise in general surgery, internal medicine, and dentistry. Approximately two years ago, she decided to return to emergency medicine, bringing with her a wealth of experience in both primary and urgent care.

Dr. Hart leads with compassion and a fear-free approach. She is committed to providing the gold standard of veterinary medicine while tailoring each treatment plan to the individual patient and family. She believes in working along a spectrum of care—balancing medical excellence with each client’s practical circumstances—while always prioritizing patient comfort, well-being, and advocacy.
