Kimberly Carlson
Veterinarian and Owner
DVM, DACVS
Hi, my name is Dr. Carlson, and I am a board-certified veterinary surgeon (DVM, DACVS) at Lenity Vet Specialists + Emergency Care. I am passionate about providing the highest standard of surgical care and helping pets and their families through some of the most challenging moments of their lives.
Why I Chose This Profession
My path to veterinary medicine was a little untraditional. After growing up in Plano, CA and spending seven years in stock trading in Chicago, I made the decision to shift my focus entirely to helping animals when they need it most. That determination has never wavered, and I haven't looked back since.
Education
I earned my DVM in 2001 from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. I then completed my general internship at the Animal Medical Center of New York, my surgical internship at the Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center, and my surgical residency at Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine.
Professional Background
At a time when corporations are acquiring many general and specialty veterinary practices, I am proud to be among a small group of specialists committed to maintaining private ownership. My goal is to deliver a sophisticated level of client service and patient care that can truly only be achieved in a smaller, owner-involved practice — where every patient and family receives the personal attention they deserve.
Work History
After completing my training, I made my way to Northern CA, where I spent five years at Berkeley Dog & Cat Hospital and PETS Referral Center, followed by eight years at the VCA Bay Area Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Hospital. Founding Lenity Vet Specialists + Emergency Care has been the realisation of a longtime dream — the opportunity to offer my experience and skills to pets in the Bay Area within a privately owned, hands-on setting.
