Shihong
Veterinary Technician Assistant
Hi, my name is Shihong, and I am a Veterinary Technician Assistant at Lenity Vet Specialists + Emergency Care. Providing high-quality care and helping patients feel comfortable and confident in their treatment is what drives me.
Personal Hobbies and Interests
Drawing has always been a passion of mine — the scientific diagrams in my published research paper were hand-drawn by me. During my veterinary studies, sketching out surgical and anatomical details was my favourite way to learn. A wonderful dog was my loyal companion for sixteen happy years, and adopting another is definitely in my future plans.
Education
My Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Medicine came from Huazhong Agricultural University, where I studied from 2016 to 2021, including a visiting exchange at the University of California, Berkeley in 2019 studying human physiology and public health. From 2023 to 2026 my studies continued at Virginia Tech, earning a Master of Science in Animal and Poultry Sciences alongside a Graduate Certificate in Data Analytics.
Professional Background
Over 1,400 veterinary B-ultrasound images were evaluated and processed during my research, contributing to a peer-reviewed study on which I am first author, published in Animals in 2026. My veterinary degree is from an AVMA-listed institution, and my credentials have been verified as eligible under the AAVSB PAVE pathway toward full U.S. veterinary licensure.
Work History
From 2023 to 2026 my role was Graduate Research Assistant and Research Lead at the Precision Livestock Farming Lab at Virginia Tech. The work involved directing a team of five students twice weekly for clinical sampling, performing California Mastitis Testing health screenings, aseptic fluid collection and PCR molecular diagnostics under veterinary guidance, and managing low-stress cattle herding alongside patient histories in clinical herd management software.
